Session prep and tips

This page is dedicated to getting you prepared for your upcoming session so that we can make the most of our shooting time together. Take a look below for process, planning and expectations for the shoot as well as some helpful tips!

Let's start with the obvious, what to wear!

First, if you're being photographed with others, your outfits should coordinate. Choose outfits that compliment each other in style and color scheme, but avoid being too matchy-matchy.

For couples, I always recommend something with a little more structure for the men (think button up, sport jacket, anything to accentuate strong shoulders), and something waist cinching for women that flatters your specific body type. Feminine features like ruffles, dresses or skirts with movement help too.

Adding in layers and textures add depth and interest. Accessories also elevate your look but don't overdo it, too much will overpower the outfit.

Last but certainly not least, dress comfortably! Clothing that's the right fit and comfort level for you not only photograph best, but will make you feel more confident during the shoot which will show in your final images. This is especially important for kiddos!!

Don't be nervous!

I know, I know, easier said than done. When you get to the shoot I will give you direction as far as poses but just as a starting point. You'll be laughing, talking, hugging, walking, kissing and just enjoying hanging out! If you focus on each other and having fun as opposed to looking at the camera you'll act and look much more natural in your images. Be yourself, and trust me to capture the most flattering, authentic side of you. I don't expect you to strike all the poses or be looking and smiling at every shot.

*If you have little ones in your session, feel free to do whatever it is that keeps them happy and comfortable during the session. Tickling, peek-a-boo, and piggy back rides are 100% welcomed. Some kids have a ton of energy and need to run around while others need to snuggle on mom or dad until they're comfortable with me. Either extreme and anywhere in between is perfectly fine!*

The rest of the details:

Since you're already booked (yay!) use this page to prepare and you'll hear from me a day or two prior to your shoot to confirm date, time, location, parking, etc.

Any remaining balance of your session is due the day before the session and you'll get an email reminder for that.

15 and 45 minute sessions have a 2 week turnaround time, weddings have a 4-6 week turnaround time with a sneak peek within 48 hours.

Your full gallery will be emailed to you when it's done. It's password protected but you can share the link with family and friends to view as long as they have the password.

15 minute sessions come with 5 digital downloads, and 45 minute sessions come with 15 digital downloads. If you can't narrow it down and need the whole gallery you can purchase it for $100. Engagement sessions and weddings include the full gallery!

PRINT, SHARE, AND POST THE DOWNLOADED IMAGES! Screenshots are not full resolution and will be blurry so always use the downloaded images for best quality.

I always recommend MPIX.com for printing. They are a great quality lab with true to color prints and are very reasonably priced.
